Job Title: Log Buckerman

Schedule: Monday-Friday (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)


Main Function:
The main function of Log Buckerman is to assist the Woodlands Scalers with their log scaling responsibilities. The Log Buckerman will mark and buck Tree-Length coniferous and deciduous sample loads to desired lengths. When not bucking sample loads, the Log Buckerman will assist Woodlands Scalers as needed (i.e. log measurements, log quality assessments, etc.).

Areas of Responsibility:
▪ Participate in required Staff and/or Contractor Safety and/or Environmental Training consistent with Canfor expectations and standards. Conduct all activities in accordance with Canfor’s Woodlands Occupational Health & Safety Program and Forest Management System (FMS);
▪ Ensure maintenance and proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (will be provided);
▪ Inspect and maintain chainsaw equipment, regular calibration of log measuring devices, and maintaining facilities according to Canfor standards;
▪ Ensure understanding of the required log lengths required for log scaling according to Canfor standards;
▪ Measure and mark Tree-Length (TL) Conifer (eg. Spruce, Pine, etc.) and Deciduous (e.g. Aspen, Poplar, etc.) sample loads according to Canfor procedures;
▪ Work with Woodlands Scalers to ensure safe bucking of Tree-Length (TL) Conifer and Deciduous sample loads while meeting production and quality objectives;

Education & Certificates:
▪ Maintain a valid Class 5 Drivers License;
▪ Certification in Chainsaw Operation;
▪ Standard First Aid considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
▪ Individual must be able to work well in a team environment and able to working outside during winter conditions;
▪ Role-specific training to be provided by Canfor (on-site);
▪ Reliable and in good physical condition to meet the demands of the role. Experience in operating and maintaining a chainsaw considered assets;

Recruitment and Retention Coordinator

The Recruitment and Retention Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the company’s mission to build a culturally inclusive and sustainable workforce. This position focuses on strategically recruiting and retaining talented members of the Alexander First Nation Band. Reporting directly to the HR/HSE Manager, the Coordinator will be responsible for fostering strong relationships, identifying top talent, and creating a supportive work environment that promotes long-term career development and retention. The role ensures that recruitment practices align with the company’s core values, while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Coordinator will also work to ensure that Alexander First Nation Band members and employees are provided equal opportunities for success and career advancement within the organization.


Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with managers and partners to fully understand the company’s hiring needs for each role, ensuring that recruitment goals and expectations are met effectively and competitively.
• Provide full-cycle recruitment support, including sourcing candidates, screening resumes, and coordinating interviews.
• Create and execute targeted sourcing strategies to identify and engage Alexander Band Members through multiple channels, including direct outreach.
• Collect and manage required certifications, training documents, and other essential qualifications, ensuring all records are accurately uploaded to the appropriate database.
• Continuously optimize the recruitment process by recommending and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Maintain regular communication with employees throughout their tenure to ensure ongoing engagement and satisfaction.
• Track key recruitment metrics (e.g., time to hire, pipeline quality, retention rates) and provide data-driven insights for continuous process improvement.
• Assist employees with registering for the Apprenticeship Program and ensure compliance with Apprenticeship Industry Training (AIT) standards.
• Collaborate closely with Alexander Employment & Labour Services to streamline recruitment and compliance efforts.
• Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with past applicants and potential candidates to foster a talent pipeline.
• Develop partnerships with local high schools to attract and engage potential graduates for internship and employment opportunities.
• Maintain an organized database of both active and prospective candidates, ensuring that information is up-to-date and accessible.


Qualifications:
– Awareness of the history of Indigenous peoples and experience working directly with an Indigenous workforce and community.
– 1 – 2 years of experience with recruitment and retention strategies.
– Competency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
– Able to prioritize work independently and shift focus quickly as business needs change.
– Demonstrates discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information
– Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, and external parties.
– Valid driver’s license and recent driver’s abstract will be required before position commencement.
